Ha, I got to play the original BF:Vietnam (with bots due to not having a broadband connection), but then must have gotten too vested into other games and only got into the multiplayer BF with the 3.
Bought BC2+Vietnam on sale years later, mostly for the Vietnam part. Solid game but by then the population had dwindled, with many max level vets. For a DLC it's rather thoroughly made, the only downside is that they didn't release any DLCs for the DLC, we could have used more maps, for longevity.
They really don't make them like they used to anymore. Today we'd be greeted with terribly designed maps, bloated ui, kfc collab clown skins and a kernel-level anti-cheat (that still doesn't catch them all). On top of that they'd somehow contrive to add gear progression and a gorillion weapon attachments even if the game were set in caveman times.
Oh, and then Rising Storm 2 (a Vietnam war themed shooter with a bit of vehicles to it) came out, that was pretty entertaining as well. Sadly, it looks like it has lost its playerbase by now too.
