When you see something outrageous or unusual it naturally generates replies. It doesn't mean what is usually posted isn't appreciated, just that there's little need to reply "wow!" to every single drawing, even though they are all worthy of such a comment it would get repetitive.
In a similar sense, if hypothetically the culture of the site were flipped and most drawings were nsfw while only a few were sfw, I can bet that the sfw ones would draw the most attention due to deviating more from the norm. It doesn't mean nsfw content is inherently better or worse, just that when you bring it into a setting it's not usually posted in then that's when it gets more attention. But it goes back to the idea of, if you just want to absolutely maximize the attention you get, there's more efficient ways to do it than just drawing nsfw and there's no reason not to seek out such efficiency
